Welcome to the United States Probation Office for the District of Columbia. To returning citizens, we welcome you home.
As you explore this site, you will find a wealth of information on our court services and supervision operations; treatment services, probation officer-led programs, FAQs, human resources related information, job announcements and much more. Of course, if you have immediate questions, you can always contact our main office and a probation office staff member will assist. You will find staff to be knowledgeable and committed to addressing your concerns.
For those under court-ordered supervision, please know that your relationship with your probation officer is important to your success. Every person under supervision presents a unique set of life circumstances and challenges. Your probation officer will work with you to carefully examine these challenges to help create opportunities for positive, sustained changes in your life. Your probation officer will also listen to your desired goals and help create pathways for you to reach these goals.
We are proud to offer a variety of treatment and therapeutic services, and vocational and employment assistance programs, to address your individual challenges. While on supervision, we expect you to adhere to your conditions of supervision and commit to making improvements in your life circumstances. In return, you can expect your interactions with all employees of the probation office to be professional, courteous, and respectful to you and your family.
Finally, we prefer if you have an appointment when visiting the probation office; however, if during business hours, you need to speak with a probation officer about an urgent matter and do not have an appointment, please feel free to come directly to our office. Someone will meet with you to address your concerns.
I wish you great success!
Brian D. Shaffer
Chief United States Probation Officer
